"My name is Andrea. I am 40 years old and autistic. I have a reality
show idea here. It is a cross between
Little People Big World and
Jockeys. It would feature me an autistic individual competing in the NORMAL
people world. This is perfectly legal according to USEF and FEI because I
personally contacted them asking if I could compete in their shows but
this was LONG before I…

As I said in my last post, Hunter/Jumper Horse Show attire is very traditional. However, it is also very trendy! Here are some of the exciting trends we are seeing in the Show Ring.
Show Coats: While you can't go wrong with the traditional navy blue show coat, it is refreshing to see riders wearing a range of beautiful colors and patterns in the show ring today. You will see Blues, Browns, and Grays in a variety of striped and plaid fabrics. Ariat's Legacy Hunt Coat is a per

If you are getting prepared for your first horse show season, choosing the correct attire for the Hunter/Jumper Ring can be a bit intimidating! Hunter/Jumper riding is a sport that is steeped in tradition, and much of that tradition has to do with the appropriate attire. While many traditions stay the same, the Hunter/Jumper ring is also very trendy! Here is a guide to help you choose horse show apparel that is both traditional and in fashion.

I've recently purchased my own horse; my first horse. A beautiful Palomino Mountain Pleasure Horse. What a crazy/cool thing for me to do! Truthfully, it's probably a year too soon given my current abilities (novice rider) but Opportunity can knock at any time and although I may not be fully ready by some standards, not to take advantage of the economy, as well as help out a fellow horse owner to find a loving home for her horse and be able to keep her other horses by selling one seemed crazy. If…

Isn't it just awesome when it all starts to come together?! Just 8 weeks ago, I had no idea how to make a horse move forward and there I was, trotting happily around the arena. It was bloody brilliant!
I was recounting my activities to my husband later. He said "I just don't see what's so hard. Isn't it natural? Don't you just do it?" Er, well no. Not quite. Gosh when I think about it, there's a lot. Heels down, with weight in your heels not the balls of your feet, light leg pressure, eyes forw…

Well, I"m not laughing yet about my antics with Rally two weekends ago, in fact I've been deeply reflective. If I'm brutally honest with myself my desire is streets ahead of my abilities. This isn't fair to Rally or worse his owner who when she wanted to half lease her horse, I don't think expected to have to babysit the leaser in the process. My riding school also offered to let me join their barn program this week. School horses are different from non-school horses for sure (and thus I won't g…

This 40+ year-cum-8-year-old just can't get enough of horses. I'm reading little girl mags (But they're so packed full of newsy horsy stuff in a way that's easy for me to digest/learn, honest!) and find myself wanting to hang around the barn all the time.
I want my own horse yet I'm smart enough to know that if I had one, I wouldn't know what to do with it. I've read a ton of stuff and got a lot of new knowledge in my brain but not yet the confidence to put all that into practice.
Leasing is a…

'Now we'll learn how to Post" said my riding instructor. "It's not Up, Down, Up, Down but rather more like this" and she demonstrated moving back and forward from the hips (vs. up and down from the knees).
I thought about it for a minute and a very clear vision came to mind. "I get it!" I yelled excitedly. "I'll just picture having some fun with Matthew McConaughey!" I tried it and it worked!
She got it immediately and instantly laughed with a tiny blush. Good job the 8 year olds didn't. Oops…

For balance, strength, and position my instructor tells me. I'm grateful for all those years of practice in public bathrooms and the "No touch sit squat". Sure built up the right muscles for Two Point :) :)

I'm a super late bloomer to the world of horses. I always wanted to learn how to ride as a kid but it just wasn't in the cards at the time; an expense my parents couldn't afford back then.
Flash forward, oh I don't know - 30 something years on and here I am! I took a lesson to help my 8 year old daughter feel more comfortable (she likes to evaluate everything before she joins in and I thought by seeing/watching what I did, the expressions on my face, and that I was doing it any way would help)…

Hi everyone,
I'm new to EquiVillage! A little about me, I grew up outside of Washington DC have been involved in horses all my life. I grew up on a small horse farm where my mother bred and trained show hunters. I grew up under (and was named after) Jane Marshall Dillion of the Junior Equitation School where I learned from a decades old system of riding that not only produced riders, but also fostered horsemanship and discipline. I rode on the A circuit through my junior years periodically and w…
