Isn't it just awesome when it all starts to come together?! Just 8 weeks ago, I had no idea how to make a horse move forward and there I was, trotting happily around the arena. It was bloody brilliant!
I was recounting my activities to my husband later. He said "I just don't see what's so hard. Isn't it natural? Don't you just do it?" Er, well no. Not quite. Gosh when I think about it, there's a lot. Heels down, with weight in your heels not the balls of your feet, light leg pressure, eyes forward, short reins, sit up straight, center seat balance, steer, keep your horse moving, and don't cut corners! Woah, my head can't hold all that!
As I was trotting around for the second time, under the blazing sun with a rotten headache brewing, it clicked into place. Must have been because I was thinking about my head and not all the other stuff (I think w-a-y too much). I felt myself relax and suddenly there it was! And it felt awesome! I could hear myself yell inside my head "I'm King of the World!". YES, YES, YES!! The biggest grin you ever saw spread across my face! After the ride, my little 8 year old riding buddy, high-five'd me as she was leaving "Great ride today!" she beamed. "You too!", I responded, slapping her hand. "See you next week!" she sang, as she skipped off to her Mum's car.
I was riding Knicker and this time he didn't give me any nonsense. Hmmm, perhaps he knows I'm just a little less green this time. He was such a good boy! Afterwards I gave him a peppermint. To my surprise, he started talking to me, eyes all smiley, nickering at me, and smiley mouth. Loved it! :)
Oh Happy Day! From the tip of my nose to the tips of my toes!
